Urban Gate to Yongsan Park
The near area of Namyeong-dong currently faces a drastic change due to rapid urban development. However, the site still stays captive as a business district special planning zone. The growth of urban development in Namyeong-dong seems inevitable due to its’attractive attributes as it borders the Yongsan City Park which is being prepared to open after centuries of isolation.
The site locates in the boundaries of the heart of Seoul. Large scale city park will border the urban texture, and Namyeong-dong will be one of the most heavily populated district due to its easy and various transtitional functions. Due to the high potential major urban infrastructure adjacent to the City park is highly likely to develop into fragmented urban development. Thus marginalizing historical and cultural values layered for centuries. The need for urban planning which preserves the existing urban fabric and values are necessary. The plans should interconnect the past to the new urban fabric.
To connect high-rise dense business facilities to city park this site intends to serve as buffer. The new facility will create a space that can perform economic, cultural, and social functions as effective as the surrounding urban development through the design of low-rise and deep underground space. This new design will be the start of the new opening to the city park and support the Namyeong-dong district to stabilize in the rapid urban development.
