*Abstract*

Senegal is a predominantly Muslim country where Islamic culture and values are primarily transmitted through village-level religious schools called Daara. However, the isolation of these Daara schools from the broader village community hinders smooth cultural inheritance. This study proposes a new facility design to enable cultural transmission across the entire village.

The design process aimed to strike a balance between tradition and modernity, reflecting Senegal’s unique context. The spatial composition referenced the organic, tree-like organization of traditional Senegalese structures. The form composition utilized the Impluvium roof and curvilinear indoor spaces, characteristic of Senegalese residential architecture, to enable natural lighting and ventilation while expressing traditional aesthetics. Conceptually, the facility is closely linked to the Daara school, aiming to promote the transmission of Islamic culture and revitalize the village community.

This study seeks to improve the cultural inheritance system at the village level in Senegal, pursuing the sustainable preservation and utilization of cultural heritage. It proposes a way for Senegal’s unique cultural identity to be maintained while allowing culture to continue thriving in a changing society.
